Week 09: 3D Audio and Spatial Sound

Unit 5 · Advanced FMOD + Unity · Wed Apr 1

Overview

Back to the Survival Game after the break, now going deeper. The enemy events are 3D: this week covers how sound is positioned in Unity’s world, how FMOD’s spatializer, attenuation curves, and distance models shape what the player hears, and how occlusion, obstruction, and reverb zones make a space feel like a place.

Topics

  • 3D sound positioning in Unity — listeners, emitters, and world space
  • FMOD spatializer settings
  • Attenuation curves and distance models
  • Occlusion and obstruction
  • Reverb zones and environmental effects

In Class

  • Hour 1: Q&A on the current state of each Survival Game build
  • Hour 2: Spatial audio in FMOD + Unity
  • Hour 3: Hands-on: tune the enemies’ 3D events — attenuation, spatializer settings, a reverb snapshot for the arena
