Ring Modulation (RM)
Similar to amplitude modulation, ring modulation (RM) modulates the amplitude of one audio signal (the carrier) with the level of another audio signal (the modulator). However, unlike AM, RM uses a bipolar audio signal (meaning a signal that moves between positive and negative values). This results in the cancellation of the carrier’s frequencies and leaves only the “sideband” frequencies (sideband frequencies equal the carrier’s frequencies + the modulator’s frequencies & the carrier’s frequencies - the modulator’s frequencies).
