Take some time to make sure you have a good understanding of how to use your chosen DAW and explore the sounds that it includes. You may also want to add some new sounds to your tool kit. I’d recommend taking a look at The Free Composer/Producer Toolkit & Beyond for some great free stuff.
Resources
- LinkedIn Learning (which you can access by logging into your Columbia email at www.office.com and then clicking on the icon in the top left corner) has some great courses on most of the popular DAWs.
- YouTube is, of course, another great place to learn about your DAW.
- Nothing is better than the user manual. Most can be found on the manufacturer’s website.
- If you are having trouble finding good resources, send me an email or ask your peers on our Discord server.

There will be no grade for this assignment. Still, you will thank yourself for taking advantage of this opportunity to refresh or establish your foundational knowledge of your DAW and related tools.
